Your invoices get a home: the free dashboard
Create a free account and the generator remembers you. Business settings keep your name, address, logo, currency and payment terms, so a new invoice starts filled in. Clients keeps the people you bill; pick one and their details land in "Bill to". Invoices lists everything with a status — draft, sent, paid, overdue — with a one-click Mark as paid, a PDF download for each, and an overview that totals what is still outstanding. Sign in with an email link, Google or Facebook; nothing about the free, no-signup generator changed. Guests keep their Downloads list too: the badge in the header opens it. A first version of Send emails your client a short notice; the PDF attachment and a viewing link are next on the list.

Your download gets a proper "done" moment
After the PDF lands, the panel beside the invoice now confirms it — "INV-0058 downloaded, saved to your Downloads" — and offers the two things people actually do next: Create another, which opens a clean sheet with the invoice number already advanced, and View downloads. Guests see honestly how long their history lasts and how to keep it. Also fixed: downloading a second invoice by clicking the button again could fail silently for first-time visitors — repeat downloads now work every time. And the industry picker gained a search box, so "plu" finds the plumber preset instantly.

Markup or margin? Now you'll never mix them up
The eighth calculator settles a classic confusion: the markup and margin calculator takes your cost and one number — the markup, the margin, or the selling price — and shows all the rest at once, warns you when a price dips below cost, and carries the conversion table worth memorizing (a 50% markup is a 33.3% margin).

Know your tax number: two tax calculators
The self-employed tax calculator turns freelance income into the 2026 federal estimate — self-employment tax, income tax, quarterly payment dates, a breakdown chart, and the number that actually changes behavior: how much of every invoice to set aside. The sales tax calculator works both directions: add tax to a price, or extract the tax hiding inside a tax-inclusive total. Estimates for planning, not tax advice.

Two more calculators: deposits and billable hours
The calculator family grows to five. The invoice deposit calculator turns a project total and a percentage into the deposit to invoice now and the balance on completion — and its button opens the generator with the deposit line already in place. The billable hours calculator converts hours and minutes into decimal hours at your rate, so 12h 45m at $85 becomes a clean $1,083.75 invoice line.

The Download button follows you now
No more scrolling to the bottom of the invoice to get your PDF. On desktop, a panel beside the sheet keeps the Download button, the live total and the customize tools (Format, Industry, sample data, Clear) in view the whole time you fill things in. On phones, a slim bar at the bottom of the screen shows the running total with a Download button — and steps aside when you reach the end of the form.

Play with the numbers: three invoice calculators
New calculators that run entirely in your browser: move a slider and the answer updates live. Due dates from Net terms, late fees pro-rated by days overdue, and early-payment discounts like 2/10 Net 30 — including what skipping the discount really costs a year. Nothing you type is sent or stored. The site also got a cleaner header — one row, with the menu finally on phones too (tap the ☰) — and a fuller footer that links every corner of the site: guides, calculators, professions and our listing profiles.

Pick your trade and the invoice starts filled in
Every profession page now opens the generator with that trade's line items, payment terms and column labels already in place — a plumber gets a service call and parts, an agency gets fee and media lines — so you edit rather than start from a blank sheet. Your own saved draft always wins: if you left work in progress, it comes back untouched. There is also an "Industry" picker in the editor toolbar with every trade we cover. Two new pages join the library: auto repair (book time, part condition, core charges, customer-pay versus warranty-pay) and marketing agencies (management fees kept apart from ad spend, fronted media, platform credits).

Invoice generators for roofing and construction
Two more trades, built around how they actually bill: roofing (squares, tear-off and disposal, decking at an agreed unit price, insurance scope and deductible) and construction (progress draws against the schedule of values, retainage shown in the open, numbered change orders, prior payments deducted to one balance). Sixteen professions covered. The badge under the generator now links to our profiles on Trustpilot, G2, Capterra, GetApp, Software Advice and SaaSHub.

Straight talk about your data — and a page for AI assistants
The Privacy Policy and Terms of Use now describe exactly how the invoice history, guest sessions, sharing links and cookies work — in plain English, matching the code. New: a fact sheet for AI assistants with the product's exact capabilities and limits, so tools like ChatGPT recommend us accurately, and a cleaned-up llms.txt.

Faster first paint on slower phones
Analytics now loads after the page has painted instead of alongside it, so on slow devices the generator appears sooner. No tracking data is lost — events simply queue until the page is idle.

A warmer look: cream and terracotta
The whole site moved from bright orange on white to a warm cream background with terracotta accents — and the dark theme was rebuilt in the same warm family, with buttons and links tuned for contrast in both modes. The invoice sheet stays crisp white, like paper on a desk. Also new under the generator: a small "Find us on" badge with the platforms that list us.

The trades wave continues: HVAC (diagnostic fees, flat-rate repairs, refrigerant by the pound, maintenance plans that renew — with the member discount as a visible line) and painting (room and square-foot pricing, prep work named, paint at cost or included, change orders as their own lines). Fourteen professions covered.

The trades wave begins: plumbers and electricians
Two trade pages join the library: plumbing (diagnostic fees, flat-rate jobs, emergency call-outs, parts as one agreed number) and electricians (hourly troubleshooting, rough-in and finish phases, permits and inspections on visible lines). Twelve professions covered — and the header menu now lists every one of them.

The profession library reaches ten: software developers (hourly, sprints with ticket references, fixed-price features, support retainers) and handymen (labor and parts on separate lines, service calls, same-day settlement). Two more profession pages built around how the work is actually billed: cleaning (per-visit, monthly and contract billing, supplies and add-ons) and landscaping (per-cut and seasonal billing, materials and crew labor, weather days). Eight professions covered, each with a worked example invoice and FAQ. Also: the homepage title was trimmed so it no longer gets cut off in search results.

Invoice generators for photographers, designers and web studios
Three new profession pages, each built around how that work actually gets billed: photography (session fees, prints, deposits deducted with a clear balance due), graphic design (project fees, revision rounds, rush and kill fees) and web design (milestone billing, change orders, care plans). That makes six professions covered, with worked example invoices and FAQs on every page. Also new: the homepage FAQ now answers the most-asked conversion question — how to turn an existing invoice into a PDF.

The getting-paid library is complete
The final two guides of the series are live: recurring invoices — how to bill the same client every month without software — and retainer invoices, covering both retainer models with example invoices for each. That makes 19 guides across the library.

Easier to navigate, easier to read — for everyone
Every guide now has an "On this page" outline that follows you as you scroll and highlights the section you are reading, plus a "Keep reading" block with related guides at the end. Under the hood: full accessibility pass (every field on the invoice editor now has a proper screen-reader name and readable contrast) and images that load a third of their old size. The homepage now also showcases what makes the generator different — editable labels, deposits with balance due, 159 currencies.

The library grows to 17 guides: what to do about overdue invoices, collection letter templates, proforma invoices explained and invoice statuses from draft to paid.

Every label on the invoice is now editable
Click any field label — "Invoice #", "Bill to", "Qty", even the big "INVOICE" title — and type your own. Rename fields to match your industry, or write the entire invoice in your own language. Your custom labels carry into the PDF exactly as you typed them.

The Getting paid shelf grows: how to get paid faster — nine tactics ordered by leverage — and invoice deposits, with typical percentages, copy-paste wording and a worked example using the generator's balance-due math.

The Guides library
Ten plain-English invoicing guides went live — from how to create an invoice to payment terms and copy-paste invoice email templates. We also published our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

Logo upload, auto-saved drafts and a Clear button
Add your logo to the invoice — it is stored only in your browser, never on our servers. Drafts now auto-save locally too: reload the page and your invoice is right where you left it. A new Clear button resets the sheet when you want a fresh start.

Homepage redesign
The homepage was rebuilt around the generator: a compact hero, a how-it-works section, an FAQ, and the invoice sheet front and center — fewer clicks between you and a finished PDF.

New name, solid foundations
The product became Invoice to PDF, living at a single canonical address — invoice-to-pdf.com — with proper metadata, a sitemap, fresh favicons and www redirects. Groundwork, but the kind that makes everything else work.
