Invoice-Generator.com is one of the best-known free invoice generators — it calls itself the original free invoice maker — and for good reason: no account, no limits, a PDF in a minute. The reason for leaving that shows up in its reviews is the ads. Invoice to PDF does the same one-minute job with no ads, and a free account adds clients and statuses on an ad-free dashboard. This page compares the two honestly, including what you would give up by switching. Every fact was checked on September 17, 2026.

Why people look for an alternative
The ads. Invoice-Generator.com's free generator carries advertising; its privacy policy says all or part of it is managed by Playwire. Most people do not mind — it holds 4.7 on Trustpilot across 295 reviews, 91% of them five stars — but the most common complaint in its low-star reviews (7 of 17, read on September 17, 2026) is advertising, mostly pop-ups getting in the way of the form.
Where the invoices live. Without an account, the invoices you download are remembered in your browser's local storage, and its own help page says that clearing your browser history erases them with no recovery. A free account stores new invoices in the cloud instead, and its History page itself warns that invoices kept there are stored on your device only. Invoice to PDF is no different without an account — see below — so this is a reason to make an account on either, not a reason to switch.
What is free and what is not. Its help page says there are no limits on creating invoices. Beyond that there is no pricing page in its menus or sitemap, and the only paid product its public pages describe is an API subscription — although its terms refer to a 30-day trial and a "paid Service", and a few Trustpilot reviewers mention paying for a subscription.
None of that makes it a bad tool. It has been online since 2012 and does what it promises. Storage is solved by its free account. For the ads, its public pages offer no setting to switch them off, so the fix is a different generator.

What stays the same
The part you came for. Both open straight into an invoice form with no account, both let you make as many invoices as you like, and both hand you a PDF. On both you add a logo, set tax, a discount and shipping, record an amount already paid and show the balance due, rename the labels, and pick from a long list of currencies.
What you would give up
- Other document generators. Invoice-Generator.com has twelve — receipts, quotes, estimates, credit notes, purchase orders, timesheets, packing slips and more. Invoice to PDF has one sheet whose labels you rename, which covers estimates, quotes, proformas and receipts, but not a timesheet or a packing slip.
- The API. Theirs is documented and free for 100 invoices a month. Invoice to PDF has none.
- Languages and currencies. Their interface comes in 16 languages and lists about 180 currency codes. Ours is in English with 159 currencies — though because every label is editable, the invoice itself can be in any language.
- Payments and automation, today. With an account, they let a client pay by card or bank account (ACH), and their guides describe payment links, view tracking, automatic reminders and recurring invoices as free. On Invoice to PDF those arrive with the Pro plan, which is launching soon.

Switching takes five minutes
- Export your history. Invoice-Generator.com's History page exports your invoices to a spreadsheet. Do it before you clear anything, and keep the PDFs you already downloaded.
- Continue the numbering. If your last invoice was 0142, type 0143 on the sheet. Without an account, "Create another" continues from the number you typed; a free account numbers invoices from INV-0001, and you can overtype the number on each one. Our guide to invoice numbers covers the formats.
- Enter your business details once. Logo, address, default currency and payment terms live in your account and appear on every new invoice — the equivalent of their "Save Default" button (still called "Save Template" on its help page).
